WAL-MART PLANS TO EXPAND STORE INTO SUPERCENTER.(BUSINESS)

QUEENSBURY -- Wal-Mart officials have confirmed the company's plans to convert a Route 9 general merchandise store here into a supercenter also offering a full selection of grocery items.

The project will add about 80,000 square feet to the existing 124,000-square- foot store by expanding into the adjacent property formerly used by Ames Department Stores Inc. Wal-Mart bought the lease to the property earlier this year in the Ames bankruptcy case, but the Bentonville, Ark.-based company would not immediately discuss its plans.
