Oconee Street land for sale to developer.

Mar. 16--The Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens has agreed to a deal to sell its Oconee Street property to a private developer so it can move to East Athens next year.

The 16-acre tract will be used for single-family houses, condominiums and commercial space, Boys & Girls Clubs Director Mike Hackett said.

"It's going to be something that will be nice, and that will complement the (North Oconee River) Greenway," Hackett said.

The developer will allow the club to stay in its current building rent-free for 15 months after closing while the club buys land and builds a new building, he said.
