Fed: Stott Despoja flags environment and education issues
Australian Democrats Leader NATASHA STOTT DESPOJA has flagged the environment and education
as issues likely to cause problems between her party and the government.
Senator STOTT DESPOJA will meet with Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD this morning, in their
first discussion since she was elected leader of the Democrats earlier this month.
The meeting is primarily a courtesy call, one of many she is making to political leaders
and industry, business and lobby bodies.
Soon after Senator STOTT DESPOJA's election, Mr HOWARD expressed concern the new leader
might not be as easy to deal with as her predecessors.
However, Senator STOTT DESPOJA says her role is not to obstruct legislation.
She has indicated tax reform is still on the agenda but as a wider debate than just
a focus on the GST.
