VIC:State service for former deputy premier
A state memorial service will be held for former Victorian deputy premier and leading
lawyer JIM KENNAN .. who died after a battle with cancer.
The service will be held in the Great Hall of the National Gallery of Victoria next
Friday .. August 13.
The 64-year-old was deputy premier to JOAN KIRNER from 1990 to 1992 .. served as attorney
general in premier JOHN CAIN'S government and held several ministries in Labor's term
from 1983 to 1992.
He took over as Victorian Labor leader from Ms KIRNER shortly after the election loss
but left politics in 1993.
Mr KENNAN represented Bushfires Reconstruction and Recovery head CHRISTINE NIXON at
the bushfires royal commission in April.
He's survived by his wife JANET and three adult children.
